Baked Shakespeare returns to The Outlore Base with its wildly popular, cult-classic production of Romeo and Juliet, with multiple sold-out Shows after acclaimed runs in Cape Town, London, and at the Edinburgh Fringe. This is Shakespeare like you’ve never seen it before, chaotic, hilarious, and unexpectedly heartfelt as the world’s most famous star-crossed lovers are reimagined with reckless romance, explosive chemistry, and a soundtrack worthy of a 2010s heartbreak playlist. Expect sword fights, iconic balcony moments, audience interaction, outrageous musical numbers, and a playful, psychedelic edge that blurs the line between tragedy and comedy.
While still rooted in Shakespeare’s original text and emotional intensity, this production leans into modern irreverence, groovy 420-inspired vibes, and electric ensemble performances that have earned rave reviews. Running from 9–25 April, with a special 420-themed performance on 20 April, this is an unmissable night of theatre at one of Cape Town’s most vibrant underground venues. PG18. Book early, seats won’t last long.
